Help[Opinions] The strange names of some twins....
Mom said my aunt knew someone with twin girls named Regina.... and Vagina.... i feel sorry for that poor poor kid....

This is too distant for me to believes specfically, but...
Does anyone remember only a few weeks ago when someone brought up the name Anally as a name they thought sounded nice? They pronounced it differently from the word, granted, but look at what word it actually is. I didn't believe mistakes like that could really happen; however, to see one person actually expressing interest in a name that falls under that "unbelieveable names" category makes me rethink my idea that it's impossible to use something that horrible.

It's possible, esp. among people who aren't as 'educated', so to speak. I have it on good authority from 2 nurses I work with that they talked mothers out of using the name MECONIUM after they heard it in the delivery room and thought it sounded "cute", spelling not necessarily withstanding. BTW, in case you don't know, meconium is a baby's first stool (black or green and tarry) which sometimes occurs before or during the birth, but often after. Not a pretty connotation, however you look at it. :b But if you don't KNOW what a word means--be it the word meconium or "anally"--then I can see how it might happen. And apparently it does happen...to the child's detriment. :(

How do you *know* it's not an urban myth? You said it yourself:

As in "a friend of a friend of a friend of mine", which is the classic form of 'providence' for urban myths. It doesn't mean it's in any way true. Your Mum says she has heard it from your Aunt, who, if *she* wasn't just passing on a 'friend of a friend' story, as simply heard it from someone - an unnamed, unlocated someone - who could have been lying or pulling her leg, or whatever. The fact is that you don't know them, and your Mum doesn't know them. Chances are your Aunt doesn't either, but just *heard* of someone.
Besides, the "girl named Vagina" is an old, old myth. Here's some examples:

It likely is an urban legend, but trust me, it happens. We have it on record at the hospital where I work and also at another I worked at during nursing school of babies named Ganaria (gonorrhea), Meconium, Female (feh-molly...a well-known urban legend, but it HAS happened in real life, too, trust me), etc.

Sorry to be skeptical, but when you say it's "on record" in your hospital, have you seen the actual medical records with these names on them yourself? All three of these are so common as urban legends that I'm afraid I would have to see a certified copy of such a hospital record before I would believe it myself.

For many of them, and some others that are just as bad, I've actually seen the baby and a copy of their birth certificate. Is that good enough for ya? :b
