[Opinions] Ferrell
I've posted about a female Shane that I knew and a female Christian that I met recently. Well, now I've very recently met a twenty-year-old girl named Ferrell. (The next door neighbors have a lot of people come and go.) I'm sure that is how it's spelled.Whoa. Whoa. Ferrell? Pronounced the same as the word "feral". Most horrible. I can't believe it. Who and when in what alternate universe decided to name a girl Ferrell? (I know the answer to that is Ferrell's parents in this very universe twenty years ago, but I want to express my total disbelief at this name.) I never thought I'd hear a girls' name I think is worse than Madison, but this just might be it.Well, that's my opinion. What's yours?

Hmm, Ferrell Catherine would be a bad combo, with nn Ferrell Cat. :-X Blah, I don't like the name.

I'm shocked! That's one of the worst I've seen recently. It's inevitable that many people will hear feral. Bestial is not something I want immediately and blatantly associated with my child's name, be they boy or girl. It's glaringly obvious why it's worse than other surnames such as Mackenzie (mentioned previously). Sure the once commonly used Cheryl and Sheryl closely rhyme with feral too but they're not going to get mistaken for the word regularly now are they?Edit - I see she's 20! I just cannot believe this name.

I don't like the name because it reminds me of ferret, but is it really *that* bad? Hear me out: Carol and Sheryl are only one letter/sound away from Ferrell/Feryl, but they are perfectly acceptable. Of course, the word feral means wild and animal-like, so I see why so many people hate it. Guess I'm all over the board with this one.

To me, Ferrell rhymes with Sheryl but not with Carol. I pronounce the vowel in the first syllable of Ferrell differently from the vowel in the first syllable of Carol. As for Ferrell\Sheryl, I guess, yes, the F vs. the SH make a huge difference, not that Sheryl is a favorite anyhow.

I share your opinion. It's terrible.

I actually know a girl named Ferrell and I think it's rather pretty, though I wouldn't have picked it. I think in my area we say it differently from feral (which we pronounce FEER-uhl) which makes a difference in my opinion of the name.

Feral is the first thing that came to mind. Poor woman.

Could be a family surname. I don't think it's really any worse than Madison or Mackenzie on a girl.

The Will Ferrell association bothers me more than its similarity to "feral."

I agree with your opinion. I think it would be just as bad on a boy.

It's the sort of name that's bad enough on a boy, but horrid on a girl.

LOL! That's bloody awful!
Feral + Will Ferrell (+ Colin Farrell, depending on your accent) ≠ a feminine name. It doesn't even = a nice masculine name. o.O I think that might be one of the worst names I've ever heard!Shane is...icky. It's sounds wet and dweeby on a boy, and even worse on a girl. A female Christian I can just about deal with, it's not like Christian is a specifically masculine or feminine concept (even if it's usually used on boys), although I much prefer it on a boy.

I don't like it. There was a girl on one of the TV talent shows (don't know which) named Farryl. Ew
