I am a male and was born in the southern part of the United States. The name is also my fathers, but he has no idea of its origin.

It kind of looks Greek to me and reminds me of the god Aeolus. How is it pronounced? That will give us a better hint on where it comes from.
The pronunciation is e/o/les, long e and o sound.
With that pronunciation, it's almost certainly a respelling of Aeolus. Aeolus itself is quite often spelled as Eolus in English speaking countries. There is a mountain in Colorado called Mount Eolus named after the Greek god of winds:
