(I'm going to have the
King and
Queen take in
Eleanora's niece, but they're not going to legally adopt her and since she is already named after
Eleanora, it won't exactly follow your rules. Is that all right?)

Eleanora Alfonsina "Eléa" [Madamoiselle

Just a year after the twins are born,
Eleanora receives some devastating news: after a sudden illness, her sister
Adelaide had died, leaving behind her three-year-old daughter that had caused so much scandal. A strong-willed, spirited child, the nuns at the Mincione convent were not sure they could handle the little motherless child, so
Eleanora appeals to
Louis to allow her to take little
Eleanora in and raise her, knowing that this is what
Adelaide would've wanted.
Louis is quite hesitant about this, knowing the scandal that
Adelaide's daughter had caused, but finally gives in because he loves his wife deeply, but on two conditions--that she would not be named a
Princess and Fille de Merteul, and that her origins be kept a secret from the public.
Eleanora agrees, and travels to collect little
Eleanora.
A few weeks later, a royal decree is made that the
King and
Queen had magnanimously taken in a young orphaned relative of the Queen--Little
Eleanora was referred to as Madamoiselle
Alphonsine, the French form of her middle name, so as to conceal her ignoble origins. However, she is referred to as Eléa by her aunt and the few close members of the palace staff who knew her true identity, and she adjusts beautifully.
Marguerite is especially pleased to have another girl in the palace, especially one she can actually play with.
