[Opinions] How do you pronounce Cyril?
I've never liked the name Cyril because I've always pronounced it SY-reel. I used to go to school with a boy who pronounced his name that way.
However, the database has it pronounced as SEER-el which I think I could really like.
Which way do you say this name?
What's your opinion of it?

I speak British ...
Rhymes with Squirrel.
More specifically: the first syllable of Sybil = the first syllable of sibling, OK? Right; so change the b to an r and you've got Cyril.

Sirril..
Short 'i' sound like in the word 'sit' - not an 'see' or 'sigh' sound.

First syllable like cereal, schwa in the second syllable ... cer'l
Like Just Jonquil does.
I like it. It's a little too unfamiliar to me to actually use it, but I think it's a good name.

Good way of explaining it... I resorted to sending a link to "The Raccoons" on youtube since they have the character Cyril Sneer.
I pronounce it SEER-el (short ee) and that's how I've heard it pronounced by Brits.
Generaly, I much prefer Kiril (closer to the Greek original) or Croatian version Čiril (pr. CHEE-reel').

SEER-l, although I used to think it was SIE-ril. I like SIE-ril better, but I guess it's not legitimate!
I really like it. I have since I was 14-15. Not like it in the sense I would ever use it, but I think it's smart and handsome.

I pronounce it SI-rul, that's the only way I've ever heard it.

I pronounce it kuy-RIL with 'uy' being the sound in the French word 'rue' but that's because I'm German and I have only heard it pronounced the German way.
If I was to pronounce it in English I'd probably say SEER-il.

ci-ruhl
Not cee because that implies a long vowel - but i sounding like i in it. The last syllable i slurred into an uh sound. (In short, not pronounced how it looks - sigh-ril)
ci-ruhl is the only way I've ever heard it pronounced - as in a man I used to see on the train each day with his office colleagues and an elderly neighbour when I was a kid.

I'm glad to hear that seems to be a common pronunciation. I was a bit disappointed to learn it was said with a long e according to this site. I didn't like it quite as much. I have come to still like it that way, but I think with the short i sound it's not as harsh.
I've only ever heard it as Seer-ill... like Cyril Sneer on "The Raccoons". (Now there's a blast from the past) It's not the best association for the name since he was the main bad guy, but aside from that, I'm rather neutral on it.
