We considered that for our son too. (It's amusing me, how some of the names you're considering are ones we seriously considered too. I wonder if you'll end up mentioning my son's actual name =) He had a cousin born when I was about 6 months pregnant, though, who got named Julian. So ... I crossed it right off the list. It annoyed me to be the second one to use it, so soon after the first.

I don't think it's feminine sounding per se. I do think that if the bearer is not very masculine, it can seem less masculine. If the bearer is very masculine, the name seems very masculine. I think it has a certain amount of drama about it, dunno if that makes any sense. I don't mean like theatrical, just that it's resonant ... *sigh* I sound like an idiot. It's the reason I love the name Julia so much. I can't really explain it. I think both Julian and Julia are powerful names, what I call "power names" - but Julia on a girl seems less complex, more predictable, than Julian on a boy does.

I don't think I would have ended up using it, just because I love Julia so much that I would've felt like I was only using Julian to satisfy my desire to use Julia (which was also thwarted, by a close friend using it just before my daughter was born!). But I do think Julian is a good name, and masculine.
