Fey is a gay slang term for "effeminate", so I wouldn't use that.

yeah, "effeminate" is exactly what I thought of too.
I know a lot of people (30s and older) who have Faye/Fay as a middle name, so it sounds kind of "throw-away" to me (like Lynn, Lee, Sue, Jean, Jo etc.). I like short names, but Fay sounds like it should be short for something, even though it isn't.
