I think that on a kid, where I live, it's just as trendy as
Iris and
Olive and
Zara (which is to say, hip yuppies use them but not very frequently). On an adult, it doesn't quite seem cheap, but I do get a sort of tartish vibe, like Dasha or Alizee. It still seems foreign enough that I don't actually expect a real
Saskia to be a pornstar or whatever - she could be anything. But the image I have of
Saskia yicks me out enough that I'd never want to use it, and I find it a little annoying. TBBH. Honestly I never heard of this name until maybe 7 years ago or so, and I felt that way pretty much immediately, so maybe it is the SASS sound that gets me? Not sure.
Carmen is a name I like a lot, and it's an opera ... it's the opera character, and I don't know how I know that because I'm not familiar with it but it's a flirty and gutsy romanticized name. I actually think it's more feminine than
Saskia. It's less harsh sounding, IMO.
So
Carmen's better, but only by my personal standards. I guess they're about even when you count their histories and meanings.
