[Opinions] Re: Blaise

I was raised Catholic, so St. Blaise and annual throat blessings are what come to mind. Since I adore almost any obscure medieval saint name (for the pure history of it) Blaise has always been a winner for me. Without that association, I can see why so many are spelling it Blaze (shudder) -- they only have the noun as a reference. Why on Earth would someone name their child after fire like that, I wondered. Then it occurred to me that perhaps it's the blaze on a horses nose that they are thinking of. Or blazing a trail. Or, fire. Ignatius started like that. Anyway, that's a long winded way of saying I love Blaise, but only this spelling for me. Old habits die hard. I generally prefer a few centuries to let a name *cure* before I consider it usable -- on a boy only in this case. Blaise Benjamin / Benjamin Blaise is pretty neat. I'm beginning to like alliterative combos more and more. :-D
