I think Carmel sounds lovely and I like the meaning (garden) too.
Carmela or Carmella is nice too, but I prefer Carmel. Femine names not ending in A are more interesting und unusual.

I don't like either - they're CANDY (and I know that will be hypertexted... well, I have a friend named Candy - even this I would prefer as a nn for Candice).
Also, my highschool accounted teacher is named Carmelita but she goes by Lita and when we found out that wasn't her name one of the girls asked why she never mentioned it before (ours was a small school so the students knew everything about the teachers and vice versa) and she said it was because she was embarrassed.
I think Carmen would be a close, and better, alternative.

Carmela pretty name
I love both names. But I have two Aunt Carmels (one on each side!) so I'm biased toward that name. Both names give me a warm, soft, and gentle feeling.
I never thought the name Carmel (which we pronounce as CAR-mul) would catch on because of the confusion with caramel. At least with Carmela you don't have to worry about pronunciation.

Carmel is best.
I've always liked this name very much.

The candy called carmel or caramel - it's basically heated sugar that turns into a sticky brown sweet goo... used inside of chocolates and on apples a lot of the time.

Oh, caramel, I thought it was some famous brand of candy
We call it "karamell". But I don't pronounce "caramel" as "carmel". For one thing, I pronounce caramel with 3 syllables and Carmel with 2. For another thing, I pronounce the A in "car" differently. Maybe I pronounce one of them wrong, I would pronounce the "car" in Carmel more like "car" (but with an audible R-sound).

lol.
I pro. caramel w/3 syl. and carmel w/2 syl. as well. I just thought caramel might be more familiar than carmel.
There is a famous candy in the US called Carmellos (made by Cadbury) which are quite delicious... I think of those whenever I hear "Carmel" or "Carmella" (also, for some strange reason - maybe it's the Halloween caramel apple connection - but Carmella makes me think of vampires too lol).
