[Opinions] Weiland
My husband LOVES Scott Weiland of STP and Velvet Revolver. He had the idea that we name our son Weiland. What do you think and do you have middle name suggestions?

I am not familiar with this person and so don't know how he pronounces Weiland. Is the first syllable like "wee", "wye", or "way"? I think a lot of people would have difficulty with the pronunciation, and so would advise parents to choose a spelling that better conveys their intended pronunciation to most English speakers.

I agree. Even on news/entertainment programs, it is pronounced in various ways.

I agree that there will be pronunciation issues. I went to school with someone with the last name Weiland and people were constantly mispronouncing his last name.

What about Scott.I'm just not into the last name as first name fad, especially with a name like Weiland. Way too surnamey... and place name sounding -- "land" is a strange syllable as a person's name.

Weiland simply doesn't sound like a personal name to me, at all. I can tolerate some surnames as first names, but not those with obvious surname components (Mac, son, ton, and of course "land")._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

Weiland, it's a nice name if your son will never visit the Netherlands, in Dutch it's a field where cows graze and it would seem very funny to a lot of people if you are named Weiland. Weiland Riley
Weiland James
Weiland David
Weiland River
Weiland Miles (although Miles Weiland would sound better)
Weiland Kyle
Weiland Cohen
Weiland Mason
Weiland Gabriel
Weiland SteffenI'm curious how you would pronounce it exactly (I'm saying WIE-land, right now, but I'm not sure if I'm too influenced by the Dutch pron. WIE-lahnt)

If it's alright by you
I'd rather be happy than a poet

I approve of Weiland. It's not too out there, and I don't think kids in his class will ever really get the reference (those that do are more likely to think STP is cool, however, than to tease you son).Weiland Edward
Weiland Miles
Weiland Nathaniel
Weiland Ross
Weiland George
Weiland Antonio
Weiland Richard
Weiland Jeremy
Weiland Gabriel
Weiland Cole

I don't like Weiland as a first name, but it would make a good middle name. I prefer it spelled Weyland.

I think it's a cool middle name but I would not like it as a first name. Ned Flat: Why are you acting like this?
Yakko: We're not acting. We really are like this.

Dracula: I am Count Dracula!
Yakko: Didn't you use to teach math on Sesame Street?
---
Yakko: Well it's that time again!
Dot: To make fun of the Disney Channel?
