[Opinions] Re: Asia and China (more)
Hi Perrine !!!I don't know why...
But Asia (AH-zya or AH-sya) is extremely popular here in Italy. It is #35 for babies in 2015 with 1348 Asia!
It is mostly used by Italians! There is a celebrity with this name.
She is Asia Argento (1975-) daughter of well-known director Dario Argento who is herself an actress and director.I think that she is the first with this name (or nearly) because all Asia I've met are under 40 especially born in 1990s and after. But I don't think that Argento is the reason why of this peak. The East always fascinated everyone. But here in Italy the law used to forbid foreign names until mid-1960s for sure. I don't know if Asia was used anyway or it didn't exist as given name...I judge Asia tacky used by Italians and it is the same with a name that is trendy in these years: Siria / Syria (Used by Italians). I don't know why it is so trendy (I know that it could be an astrological tie but it is very weak in this case) I met at least three Syria with total Italian ancestry. Just horrible imo. My judge is not for all names but only for these ones (geographical ones). If a person has that ancestry (or has lived in that area, or his/her parents lived in that area) so its ok. But it would be nonsense in other cases. The love for a certain cultures or country can be given in other ways such given names from that languages (also MNs if it seems too strange).Anyway in my opinion people could give their children every name they want.
