I do like the crisp, almost musical sound of Carol although this spelling seems more of a short form than a full name, imo. Overall, I prefer the Carole spelling which I find much more aesthetically pleasing.
Is it dated? Yes. Ready for a comeback? Possibly. I've seen names lately that I was certain wouldn't circle back around for a very long time and yet, here they are. And honestly, once I meet a young child with an older, dated classic, it somehow becomes new again.
