I was really surprised that
Ethan was no more common in the early 19th century than names like Heman,
Laban, and
Ichabod despite
Ethan Allen's fame. By the way,
Ethan Allen himself had a brother named Heman, and other brothers named
Heber,
Levi,
Zimri, and
Ira.
