[Surname] Re: Levario
in reply to a message by Menke
My research shows that the original term was Erario. The Italian word meaning tax collecter.
Then the term/name evolved to L' Erario
Then the name changed to Lebario when the southern half of present day Italy became part of Spain.(Which a lot of historians have forgotten).
That is how a lot of Spainards with Italian names first arrived to the Americas.
Lastly, you can see in census that the name changed to the presnt day spelling
"Levario" during the time when the Spanish language began replacing many of their terms/letter's from b to using the letter v in many of their words.

My husband and I will be in Spain and Portugal in September. My mother's maiden name was Levario. From a relative who visited Lebario, I learned this is where our heritage begins.I would like more information on Lebario, as we will be staying both in Bilbao and San Sebastian with side tours to other areas, but mostly, I would like to visit Lebario. Is there a city center in Lebario where I can get information regarding Lebario?Thank you,

Levario is simply an alteration of Lebario as you can see at tinyurl.com/y742ykz7, for example. The origin of the surname is the placename Lebario in the Basque Country in Spain. There is nobody named Lebario or Levario in Italy as you can see at tinyurl.com/yaw2hoqc.
