What would you think if someone named their kid Lemon? Do you think it could ever work as a name?

I know a little girl named Lemon. Her twin sister is named Prinley. I think they are both horrible and ridiculous.

I know a dog named Lemon. Super cute! Not on a kid but honestly I've met an Apple and a Plum so I wouldn't think it was the weirdest thing ever. Weird but not super strange.

I named one of my Pokemon player characters Lemon and the rival Grape. I grew attached to these names within this context and I think they're cute.

When I was a teen in Australia in the 90s, ‘lemon’ had two meanings other than the fruit: ‘a second hand car which was a bad purchase and keeps breaking down’, and ‘lesbian’.
In the UK it means something like ‘doofus’, which was a culture shock the first time someone called me a lemon and I had to figure out what they meant haha.
So no, with the slang meanings I can’t see it working!

I've heard "lemon" for a junky car, but I've never heard it for "lesbian". Huh.

Yes, it was.
Yes, it was (or maybe it still is) a slang term for that. I only know that because one of my sisters used to be into fan fiction. (Note: She never wrote or read 'lemon' fan fiction. She learned what the term stood for before she read anything like that, thank goodness. We would have had a really angry mother if she had read or written something 'lemon')

Love the fruit. Not keen on it as a first name. It could make an interesting middle name...? Probably a girl.

I love lemon scent, I love lemon flavored anything dessert-wise, but Lemon for a name? So dumb.
If I had to, I’d use it for a middle name only, a girl. It seems more feminine.
Side note...
My daughter has a little boy named Lennon in one of her classes. (Kindergarten)... she still, after months, thinks his name is Lemon. “Mom, isn’t Lemon coming to class today?”
I’ve tried to explain his name several times, but Lemon has stuck. And thankfully, he doesn’t mind it at all, and says his sisters call him the same thing.
If I had to, I’d use it for a middle name only, a girl. It seems more feminine.

Well, I have an aunt named Kiwi! Lemon seems less awkward to me...and way less smarmy than Peaches...maybe because it's a surname already.
I think it's bright and garish, like Sunshine but tangier. It's also kitschy like Cherry, indie like Lyric, guileless like Daisy. Unisex.
I can easily imagine calling someone that and liking them, but it's harder to imagine liking it as my name.
Lemon and Lavender would be a funny sibset to come across.
I guess there's also possible color symbolism: yellow = intellect. I'd make associations like that, if it were my name, in order to like it more.

My friend actually knows someone who did this. Her friend Ethan & his wife named their son Lemon. We both found it unbelievably stupid.

Makes me think of junker cars, aka lemons, and the "lemon laws" that are supposed to protect you from buying them.
Also Lemony Snicket, one of the most annoying kids' authors around.

I happen to like lemons, but that doesn't mean Lemon makes a good name.

I might wonder if they were into folk witchcraft or hoodoo - lemons are important and popular items in those traditions, pretty powerful little fruits.
It seems a bit random as a name, but "Lem" or "Lemmy" could easily be used and it's fun and retro.
