Pronounced that way it was actually originally the brand name of a perfume. Many people will pronounce the perfume like "
Sierra" these days, but TV ads for it when it was first sold definitely pronounced it "see-are-uh".
Evidently the brand name was created from the initials of the owner of the company,
Charles Revson ( C -- R-- uh).
