[Opinions] Prudence and Agatha and Dorcas, Harvey, Rosalind and Susie, Hilda and Zelda, Ambrose, Salem, Sabrina
These are the names of the Weird Sister on the show "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" and I was wondering what you thought of them.Prudence - nicknamed Pru (or Prue). Prue was a character on "Charmed" and now "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" so I am sort of wondering if it could get popular. Thoughts?Agatha - I had a feeling it might come back some years ago but now I wonder if it's too harsh.Dorcas - what about this?Sabrina's boyfriend:Harvey Her friends:Rosalind "Roz"
SusieHer aunts:Hilda
ZeldaHer cousin:AmbroseHer cat (well, her familiar)Salemand if you haven't commented yet:SabrinaPLEASE NO SPOILERS, I am only watching season 1 right now. Please rate my list: https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/6232

I liked this show.
Prudence makes me think prunes, so no.
Agatha, I like it, especially the nickname Aggie, but I think it’s dated and not ready for a comeback.
Dorcas - an awful name
Harvey - not a fan of this name.
Rosalind is my favorite of the names
Susie - too old, cutesy and incomplete
Hilda - I think, at least in some versions it is short for Hildegard. Either way it seems too much.
Zelda - if it wasn’t tied to a video game character, I think it would be better and more popular
Ambrose - it’s intriguing, but I wouldn’t use it, it makes me think of ambrosia salad
Salem - I want two black cats named Salem and Binx (Hocus Pocus), I could maybe see using it in the middle.
Sabrina - I have such a bad association. I couldn’t.

Prudence - not bad at all; better than Patience, for instance. I once knew sisters, Prudence and Susan, who were known as Prue and Sue. Ill-advised.
Agatha - fine in English, helped by Ms Christie! In Afrikaans, the pronunciation changes unpleasantly into ah-XAH-tah, where the X is "like ch in Scottish 'loch'", though in fact it's more guttural.
Dorcas - probably came over in the Mayflower, or was the grandmother of someone who did. I don't enjoy the -or- sound: in my dialect: Audrey, Aubrey, Sean, George, Dawn, Gloria, Maud, Maureen ... no. Just, no.
Harvey - never met one; just another lnfn I suppose
Rosalind - I prefer Rosalind to Roz, but it's not one of my favourite Ros- names, though I do quite like Linda.
Susie - only a nn, but an excellent one that almost makes dreary Susan worth using or even having. So much better than Sue!
Hilda - I've been told that in gay slang, certainly in Cape Town, South Africa, female names are/were used as synonyms for, usually, adjectives. If something was said to be Hilda, that meant Horrible. The police were known as Priscilla, and if they were patrolling with dogs, that was Priscilla and her Hush Puppies! Can anyone confirm this, and did it happen elsewhere as well?

I watched Charmed when I was a kid, so I might be a little bit biased... but I like Prudence nn Prue or just Prue. I'd prefer Prue to Piper or Paige.
Technically, Prudence could be a substitute for Florence &
Prue — for True and other popular one syllable names. But in reality, I think, people find Prudence irredeemably old-fashioned and Prue — insubstantial. Strangely enough, Agatha was one of my favorite A names five or more years ago and then I just stopped care about it.
Agatha reminds me of agate, which I like, I prefer Agata, though (Polish or Italian pronunciation). Rosalind, hm, love nn Roz, it's the best Rose- name imo.I love Sabrina only because it contains Brina, the name I've unexpectedly started to like. I still wonder why Brina is not more popular, as it could be a nice alternative to Bryn(n), Bree & Briana.

I tried twice to get into this show, and I just couldn't do it. Mostly because I felt like I was being asked to sympathize with genuinely evil characters - particularly Aunt Zelda. (And I love Miranda Otto. But Zelda is evil.)Regarding the names, I've spoken many times about my enduring love of the name Sabrina (most recently here: https://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/5381860). I also like Zelda & Ambrose as names.Don't like any of the other names, especially Dorcas. I understand it was, historically, how to get the nickname Cassie in English, but the nineteenth century brought about the use of names from Greek Mythology, thus we have Cassandra. Dorcas doesn't need to come back.

Agatha jumped 60% in the USA last year to a number of births not seen since 1926, so it may actually be on its way up.I personally have always really liked Dorcas, but unfortunately I think the slang word "dork" has made it impossible for it to come back in the USA in my lifetime. Sabrina is a fascinating name to me because it has an extremely up-and-down history in the USA, with all the jump ups explained by a different film or TV show featuring a character with the name. It is one of the names which gives the most proof that popular culture really does influence what babies are named. Harvey had a quite definite comeback in the UK in the early 2000s. It was starting to rise in the USA, partly because of the main character on the TV show "Suits", when the Harvey Weinstein scandal caused it to plateau instead of keep on rising. I think it has a good chance to start rising again here in a few years. I personally really like Rosalind, Zelda, and Hilda. Ambrose has never been my cup of tea.

I like them all, except Salem and Ambrose which is kind of blah. Dorcas has always been on my gp list. Prefer the full names for Susie.

I’ve never seen “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”.I’m a huge fan of “Charmed”. Only the old one though, not the remake.

Prudence would make a fantastic name for a cat. I don't see it making a comeback.Dorcas is irredeemable. Dork + ass.
