The most famous real woman I know of named
Psyche was
Psyche Cattell (1893-1989), who was a daughter of
James McKeen Cattell, a professor at Columbia University who was one of the most prominent academic psychologists in the United States at the start of the 20th century.
Psyche Cattell herself became a psychologist and an expert on the intelligence of young children and their education. When I taught a course in the History of Psychology she was always mentioned as one of the first prominent women in the history of psychology. (She was also one of the first single women in the USA ever to legally adopt a child.) Because of my knowledge of her, I think of
Psyche as a very useable name which would be suitable for the child of modern feminist parents.
