[Opinions] Reiki as a name?
Maybe half serious BUT someone suggested this. Wdyt?

This would be a great name for a character that is meant to be a satire of one of those oatmeal hipster boho-chic "good vibes only" organic minimalism types.
No, it's a massage
no it's an energy scam.
Not really. It's an "energy healing" technique/intention that can be blended with massage; reiki doesn't necessarily involve touch at all. I agree it'd be weird as a name, though, especially since practitioners call themselves Reiki Masters.

Reiki as a name would be silly but Reiko is a good name.
Not bad in Japanese, I like Rei. But yes, it doesn’t quite work in the Anglosphere.
No. It’s either silly or cultural appropriation.
this reminds me ...
I once had to talk to someone on the phone who had a Spanish last name and her first name was Sukeyaki. I know the spelling because I also had to email with her.
I don't know what got in to her parents to name her that. I know there's a song, but it's kind of a nonsense song, if I remember right. Basically they named her like naming a kid Spaghetti or Tapioca or Pretzel.

If a person has to even consider whether this is serious or not, the answer is no, it's not a good idea for a name. Enough people know about reiki massage that this wouldn't go unnoticed.
