I don't think they have to start with the same letter. I prefer that they don't because to me it looks cutesy.

Mine would be Lilac Imogen and Alice Thisbe. Or, if I were in a really cutesy mood, Lilac Imogen and Lydia Iris or Alice Thisbe and Aviva Tanith.
