[Opinions] Re: Cheyenne
in reply to a message by Suzie
Naming a kid Cheyenne, Dakota, etc. are like naming a kid Canadian, French, or British to me. It also strikes me as disrespectful to the Native Americans who originally called themselves these names.
More specifically, Cheyenne is very trendy. It also has an unattractive meaning: "unintelligible speakers".
But for goodness sake don't misspell it! Cheyanne, Shyanne, etc. are all really, really tryndee, tacky, and icky to me. (Shyanne reminds me of, well, a shy Anne.)
Other -anne names in BtN's database (asterisks indicate ones I like):
Adrianne
Anne* (why not this, all by itself?)
Arianne
Brianne
Christianne
Deanne*
Dianne
Hanne*
Florianne
Janne*
Jeanne* (pr. ZHAN, not JEE-nee)
