[Opinions] Re: Orchid ... +
Testicality aside, it sounds kind of dorky to me. Reminds me of Orkin pest control, and of a tacky erotic film called Wild Orchid ... sorry. Your mileage may vary. But some Orchids really do look a lot like human genitalia, and that alone is too much for me - if roses looked like that, I think I'd dislike the name Rose. A lot. Woah.By the way, orchid in medical terms refers to gonads in general, including ovaries* (I guess the ancient Greeks might not have understood ovaries). So if I were named Orchid, that'd be one part of my arsenal of ways to shut up junior high school smartasses. Some orchid genera that might make names =D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Orchidaceae_generaOrchida or Orchia (stress on second syllable eee) might be nicer, IMO. The latter is an orchid genus.* (edit) I said this because I know more than one veterinarian who refers to a spay as an orchi(d)ectomy. I suppose it could be idiosyncratic and few other doctors anywhere say it, because there's another technical term for the spay while the castration is technically the orchiectomy.- mirfak
