For sure it comes from Greek ... meaning something like "man" ... as all of the Andr, Anth, etc. names mean.

It seems it is found in England, Russia, Hungary and France. And since people usually went from Russia and Hungary to places like England and France is my guess is that it is Eastern European. I'd guess a Slavic version of Anthony.
Many traders immigrated to both England and France from these countries so I wouldn't doubt that they may have established families there.
