People will inevitably use nicknames at school and work, unless the name is a one-syllable one. So if you're giving your child a name that has a nickname you can't stand, you'd better think of one you can stand and get ready to instill it as early as possible. Or, if you can't find a nickname for the name that you can stand, and you really hate the others, you should discard the name and not use it.
So there are strong advantages to thinking about what a nickname would be if there was to be a child with that name.
