Re: Surname as a Given Name..Yes? or No?

I don't see why not... Lots of currently common first names derive from surnames. Take mine for instance:GRANT
From a Scottish surname which was derived from Norman French grand meaning "great, large". [http://www.behindthename.com/name/grant]Anyway, if you're just looking for an opinion as to whether it's hip or not, I think it depends on the name and personal taste. Sometimes it sounds a little pretentious in my opinion, or like the parent was trying too hard to come up with something unique. Then again, I think some surnames work well as given names. Mason is one that I kinda like.Grant
