My husband is Korean, so he can retrace his lineages back for several generations. His mother was asking about my mom's side of the family, and where her family was from. I really had no idea. My mother never met her father, and I suppose she never asked her mother about her heritage.
I have two surnames to ask about: Welch and Webb.

Welch is the more common spelling in England, Welsh in Scotland. It just means what it says, someone from Wales. It appears to be more southern than northern in distribution (England).
Webb is the older word for a weaver; Webber, Webster and Weaver are other names with the same meaning. This name belongs to the English Midlands and South.
