Torrente is both a Spanish and an Italian surname, but seems to be more common in Spain. If you go to

As I'm sure you're aware Spanish and Italian are both Romance languages with a vocabulary drawn from old Latin, as is Portuguese. So words can turn out the same or similar in these languages. "Field", for example is campo in both Spanish and Italian, from Latin campus.
