histroy of surname of scharfl
Where did it come from ,why is there no recored of this old name. My grane father was from old germany or close to it.

I wonder what the L could be at the end. Maybe a deminutive. "Scharf" indeed means "sharp" and as byname was given to a sarcastic person or as the Oxford Dictionary of First Names has it: an "energetic, active person".
In Germany you will find the spelling SCHARFF, so maybe the second F was mistaken for an L at one point. No idea.

I typed it in at a German to English dictionary and brought up scharf, which meant "sharp, arcid, pungent, keen, etc." I'm thinking that the name originated from that.
