Means "golden" in French, denoting someone with golden hair or someone who works with gold, ultimately derived from Latin deauro "to gild, to cover with gold", a compound of aurum "gold" combined with the prefix de- "derived of, from". A famous bearer of the name was French artist Paul Gustave Louis Christophe Doré, also known as Gustave Doré (1832-1883).
