Meaning & History
From the personal name Kurýlo, a Ukrainian form of the ancient Slavic name Kiril, from Greek Kyrillos, a derivative of kyrios ‘Lord.' This was the name of the saint and missionary of the Orthodox Church (826–869) who, together with his brother Methodios, brought Christianity to the Slavs. The Cyrillic alphabet is named for him.
