Meaning & History
From a medieval nickname for someone with very fair hair or complexion. It was borne by English cricketers James Lillywhite (1842-1929), first captain of England, and William Lillywhite (1792-1854), pioneer of overarm bowling, uncle of James. There is also Lillywhite's, a sports goods shop at Piccadilly Circus, London, which was founded in 1863 by James Lillywhite (1825-82), son of William, and moved to its present site in 1925.
