I absolutely love the sound of Melissa, and resent that it was so overused in the 80s and that I've known a fair few annoying or ditsy ones. I might still use it anyway - it's on my "wavering favourites" list!

My best friend in primary school was Mellisa Joan, and we called her Missy, but I prefer Lissy as a nn for Melissa. Mel is nmsaa.
