[Opinions] Re: Evangeline
in reply to a message by Working Class Hero
I love Evangeline, but only if the last syllable is pronounced like the word "line" (rather than like "lyn" or "leen"). That's how I first ran into the name, and it sounds wonderfully, romantically Southern to me. I hear it and think of the short story "The Osage Orange Tree" by William Stafford. It's a really good one, if rather sad, and definitely worth looking into.
I prefer the name without a nickname, but if she must have one, my preference is to Evey (prn. the same as Evie, but with better associations for me).

Thanks
Never heard of the story, but will have to look it up sometime.
I'm not too sure about pronunciation as I like it both ways. Whilst "leen" seems cuter "line" seems more classical and strong.
Thanks, Georgia

I've had a devil of a time finding it on the internet, but I've just managed to find a copy of the story. If you'd like, I'd be happy to PM it to you. :)

Oooh goody!
I've been looking for something nice and short to read. As a reward for good exam results and good behavious my school gave me a book voucher in the summmer and I bought 'War and Peace' and promised myself I'd make a start on it during my Christmas holiday, of which today is the first day! A short story would make a lovely change.
Thank you very much and happy holidays!
