After Amelie's birth, things for Eleonore became worse. It was well known that Heinrich was a jealous, bitter, tempermental man, and appartently having two daughters and no son was enough to really make him angry. Heinrich began to drink heavily and everynight would arrive at Eleonore's bedchamber, drunk and abusive. Eleonore had run out of tears to cry, but had begun to wonder if she really was the worthless tramp that Heinrich called her... Perhaps not giving her a son was the gods way of punishing her for deeply loving a man who was not her husband... It all came to a head one night when Amelie was a few months old. As was usual, Heinrich had been drinking at the tavern and returned home very drunk and came to her chambers and tried to force himself on her. Up until then, Eleonore had been able to avoid his attentions, claiming to still be healing from Amelie's birth, but that was not going to happen tonight. Heinrich was slurring all sorts of derogatory, horrible things as she tried desperately to fight him off, but he just continued to mumble something about 'Bergfalk heirs'... She was spared however as before he could truly force himself on her, the alcohol in his system won out and Heinrich lapsed into unconsciousness. Terrified, Eleonore knew she had to get out and quickly packed her, Valeria & Amelie's belongings before waking the coachman and instructing him to take them to the palace. She looked over her shoulder constantly the whole trip there, just waiting for Heinrich to catch up to them on horseback, demanding she return home... Eleonore knew thought that if she could reach the safety of the palace, she would be safe as Walter would never let Heinrich hurt her.
Eleonore finally made it to the palace and breathed out a sigh of relief that they'd made it. One of the servants quickly went and found Walter to tell him that she was there, and Eleonore knew that he would be suprised, after all, she had not been at court since before Amelie's birth... She was shown to a guest suite and waited, knowing that Walter would join her soon. He came in only moments later, out of breath and flushed as if he'd run... Eleonore stood to just look at him and the intensity between them was palpable. They sat together, and Eleonore explained everything to him. It was as if the flood gates had opened and everything in her heart poured out, all the misery, the loneliness, the anguish, it all came tumbling out and when she finally finished with the events of the previous night that had resulted in her fleeing her home she stopped, embarrassed that she'd been so inproper with him. She bowed her head, ashamed that she had behaved in such a way, and sighed. Walter suprised her by offering comfort and Eleonore couldn't help but melt into him. She wasn't sure how exactly it happened, or perhaps it was always going to happen and she and Walter had just spent too many years trying to ignore it, but what started as comfort quickly morphed into something more, and that night their love for each other finally became physical...
Eleonore spent two months at the palace, hiding from Heinrich, but in that time she and Walter conducted a torrid affair. Eleonore felt terribly guilty for her behaviour, and yet so overwhelmingly happy at the same time. She and Hedwig spent their days together, and Eleonore knew that her sister suspected what was going on, but Eleonore pushed that away. She wasn't behaving in such a way to hurt Hedwig, she didn't want to hurt her sister, but she just couldn't stay away from Walter any longer, her heart wouldn't allow it. Heinrich finally turned up at the palace, demanding the return of his wife and daughters, and Eleonore knew she had no choice but to go. She was his wife afterall, and duty came first. She was lucky he'd taken this long to come for her really.
She left the palace reluctantly and with lingering looks at Walter. She didn't know if this was the end of their affair, but she was happier than she'd been in a long time, and she knew that the memories of their love would sustain her through the darkest days with Heinrich. As soon as they were resituated in the Bergfalk estate, Heinrich's visits to her chamber resumed as he wanted a son above all else. Not long after her return she realised she was pregnant, and Heinrich was very pleased at the spead at which she'd become so, after all, he'd only had her back a few weeks. As the pregnancy progressed, Eleonore knew that she was already to far along for their to be any chance that this child was Heinrich's, but the fact that she was carrying Walter's child pleased her emensley, know she'd always have a piece of him to love and have close to her. Heinrich was an ignorant man when it came to woman's things like childrearing, so when she went into labour far earlier than would be possible if the child had been his, Heinrich stayed oblivous. Eleonore had a smooth labour and finally birthed a son, tears streaming down her face as she looked at him, the product of her and Walter's love. She named him Friedrich, which she knew was one of Walter's lesser used middle names and one that she knew Heinrich would make no connection to. Heinrich is thrilled at the birth of a son and heir, and the girls treat their new brother like a doll.
Eleonore wrote to Walter to tell him of the birth, but knows that he will never be able to acknowledge little Friedrich as his son publically.
