I'll just go ahead and say now, for the first week or so updates will be sporadic and there may only be two or so as I finish up the semester. I'll try my best to get one at least every other day.
So, about the game. This time around, we will be playing a kingdom set on a world similar to our own but with fanstastical elements. Magic and mythical animals, some other intelligent species as well if you would like, such as elves, goblins, dwarves, and such. A fairytale world, but NOT necessarily a medieval-style world. The first to sign up will determine the tone of the game as well as the native language for names. And in this game, we'll be starting right from the formation of the kingdom.
Kriana as a united kingdom only came into being a year ago. With the kingdom of Lethia to the west and north, the kingdom of Dakla to the east, and the Lari Ocean to the south, the area was simply a group of small kingdoms with a loose alliance for trade. It is a rich area, with fertile land, good rainfall, natural harbors, and the Kria River running straight down from the northern mountains and providing a natural highway down the middle of the area. These small kingdoms were constantly waging small battles with one another over disputed territory or an insult from one ruler to the other, the larger kingdoms said more out of boredom than anything else. This constantly bickering area was an easy target for the army from the north, an army of nomadic peoples who came across the Northern Mountains seeking territory and tribute for their far-away king. Lethia and Dakla were both too large and too powerful to attack, but the area between was vulernable enough that for years the people were beset, forced into thrall. For nearly a lifetime this lasted, until finally one person who was brave enough and stupid enough and charismatic enough to raise a real army began moving among the kingdoms, gathering the talented and the brave of all peoples, convincing leaders that the only way to defeat the people that held them down was to unite. Five years of gathering, spying, and planning, all led by this driven person, finally came to a head in the two-year long War of Rebellion, a brief but bloody war that effectively drove the nomadic army back to their home city. Too involved in other wars springing up, the king who ruled these armies decided that this one relatively small place was not important enough to try to win back once lost.
After the battle, the leaders of the small kingdoms and the generals who had led the battles all met and agreed that the only thing to do was to unite into one kingdom. This kingdom they named Kriana, for the Great Kria River that ran through it, and the one who had started all the planning and done the brunt of the work was unanimously put as the ruler. The largest city in the area, a beautiful port city located both on the Kria and the ocean named Fairlin, was set as the city, and there this new ruler was crowned. A grand castle was given up by the former king (now a member of the royal court), and there the ruler made their royal seat and recently married one of their most trusted allies and best military leaders. Now the work begins of making sure Kriana, the new young kingdom, remains united and has a place on the world stage.
Now, what the person who signs up first (and therefore will be this ruler) has to decide is:
Are you a king or a queen? Either one is fine, but describe yourself and the general you married (military leaders can be women without anyone thinking it unusual in my world). Do you love this person, or is it a more political marriage? Assume you at least like and trust this person Sorry, but this should be a heterosexual relationship.
The language you want to use for native-Krianan names (assume all the small kingdoms used the same language). We'll use names from this world to make it simpler.
The time-period feel of the game (any type of feel from our world, from the beginning of recorded history to about the 1800s, so you have plenty of leeway!)
The general mood of the new kingdom: is it still shaky, is it strong, do they have good relations with their neighboring kingdoms, how are they building their economy.
Just how fantastical this world is: is magic common or rare, are there fantastical peoples and animals and how common are they, what other fantastical elements are there?
So, finally, here's the sign-up. If the ruler decides there are other intelligent beings besides human, your family can be one, but please specify and use the same naming patterns. If there are other beings, they will be part of every walk of life including nobility. Same-sex couples will be allowed, just not for the ruler (sorry!)
