Yes, we all know that
Diane is dated. It's my middle name. It's very dated, as is my first name.
But I've heard a few very positive opinions of the name from older people. My mother always went on about how much she loved it, to the point that I always wondered why she didn't make it my first name, as I never heard her go on about how much she loved my first name. When I told my mother-in-law what my middle name is, because she asked, she said, "Oooooh, pretty!" and then asked me if I had ever considered going by it (The old bat has never made a secret of the fact that she doesn't like my first name, and no, I've never considered going by
Diane.)
Then I knew a couple who were young when I knew them, a generation younger than my mother and my mother-in-law, who loved
Diane and considered it strongly when they had a daughter.
I always stuck it into the "dated and ordinary" category, but the love I've seen has got me to wondering if I too would see something in it if it weren't dated.
What do you think?
Can you separate it from its datedness? Do you like it?
And I am asking about
Diane and not
Diana. It's a small change of one letter and one little sound, but to me it makes all the difference.
