I love nicknames because I never had one. I always felt left out! I always said I'd give my kids a name that can have a nickname, and so I did.
1. I pick one beforehand, whichever seems best for them. Sometimes it can change, and of course when they're older maybe they'll choose to use a different one at school or something.
2. Yes, but I can't imagine that happening. It would be pretty rude to refuse to call a kid something the parents ask you to call them, or to call them something the parents have specifically asked them not to be called.
3. I LOVE Nin! Gets my vote.
