[Opinions] Zander
Wondering what people think of this as a name on its own. I've always liked the sound of Alexander, but never liked the nick name Alex. Maybe it's just so common. I guess you could just give the name Alexander and call him Zander or Xander as a nick name. Then he'd have a more common first name to fall back on if needed. You could get into other names like Anders, Anderson, or Chandler too, I suppose - since I'm drawn to it by the way it sounds. But I like the Z and -er ending. Has the makings of a trendy name. Different, but not out there. I also had a friend named Alexandra who went by Zandy as her nick name. Zandra could be interesting too. Opinions? Thoughts? Middle name suggestions? Would you ever consider just using Zander, Zandra, or Zandy as a name? Thanks! ~Miss Mustard

I prefer the spelling Xander. If I have another son this name is on my list to honour my mum Sandra. I don't like Alexander myself and hate Alex. Some middle names:Zander Michael
Zander Lewis
Zander William

I wouldn't use Zander or Zandra, or especially Zandy, as a stand-alone name.My nephew Alexander answers happily to Alex, Zander and Alexander (when he's being yelled at, mostly). When he was born, his very small big brother referred to him as BabybrotherZander, all in one breath, which was beyond wonderful.I find Alexander inconveniently long, and better as a mn. If I had to use a form of it, I'd go for Alastair or Alec, though not Alex - as you say, there are just too many of them.
