They are not pronounced the same, are they?
Alana is okay but it always makes me think of "anal" and it sounds a bit dull and feels 80s dated.
Alaina sounds much prettier but it is a creative spelling of a pronunciation of Elena so I dislike the spelling.
I'd go with Elena pr. eh-LAY-na.

Alaina isn't a creative spelling of a pronunciation of Elena. It comes from Alan / Alain influenced by Elaine / Elaina. (Elaine and Elena both come from Helen so they're still related that way, but the main source is Alan). If anything I'd say Alayna and Elayna are the creative spellings of Alaina and Elaina.
