[Facts] Scharpe
i REMEMBER SEEING THIS NAME IN SOME FAMILY HISTORY NOTES. The name is on my father's side of the family. Is it a form of the surname Sharp?

Scharp is a German surname, the Low German equivalent of the normal German names Scharf or Scharpf. All of them have the same derivation as the English surname Sharp or Sharpe, "sharp, cutting, quick-witted." Scharpe is probably either a variation of the German name, or a respelling of the English surname Sharpe by someone who was influenced by German spelling in their note-taking. This information is from a combination of Hans Bahlow's Dictionary of German Names and Reaney & Wilson's A Dictionary of English Surnames.

It could also have a meaning to do with 'shoes.'
