Derived from the name of an estate named Bergsätter located near Motala, Östergötland, Sweden. Bergsätter is composed of Swedish berg "mountain" and säter "outlying meadow". Jacob Berzelius (1779-1848) was a Swedish chemist considered to be one of the fathers of modern chemistry.
