Derived from Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav (known as Brandeis-Altbunzlau or Brandeis an der Elbe in German), a town located in the Prague-East District, in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. A famous bearer was the Czech portrait painter and photographer Jan Adolf Brandeis (1818-1872).
