Meaning & History

Means "comb" in German, an occupational name for a wool comber or fuller, or perhaps a maker of combs. In some cases it might have been used in the sense of "ridge of mountains, hills", making it a topographic name. The Estonian usage could derive directly from the German surname, or be independently taken from the word kamm.
