Meaning & History
Finnish: from lehto ‘grove’; either a habitational name, recorded since the 17th century, from any of the farms in eastern Finland named for their location by a grove, or in other cases a more recent ornamental adoption. In the U.S. this may also be a shortened form of Lehtonen, which is a more frequent form in Finland.Read more on FamilyEducation: http://genealogy.familyeducation.com/surname-origin/lehto#ixzz1chdUatYf
