I adore the name
Constance and would consider using it one day. I love the meaning behind it, I love that it sounds so strong and spunky- you wouldn't mess with a
Constance. I couldn't imagine a passive, quiet as a mouse
Constance. I also like the nn
Connie a lot too which is what turns a lot of people off.
Connie is the sweet maternal side of
Constance. I just imagine this fiery woman who finally settles down to married life with a bunch of kids in the 50s- when she disagrees with her husband and goes all feminist on him, she is
Constance. When she nurses her baby to sleep or bakes cakes with her little ones, she is totally
Connie.
One of my great-great-Aunts was Auntie
Connie and she was one of my favourite old women when I was a little kid. She was by all accounts as stubborn as a mule, went out and had a career way before her time, put food on the table during the Great Depression for her family when her husband, father and brothers were out of work, could stretch a dollar like no other, and was still going strong at the ripe old age of 94 and would teach me how to dip my cookies in hot tea and then tell me I mustn't tell my grandfather because he thought it to be the height of bad manners. Her full name was
Sarah Constance (she hated
Sarah).
Sorry, long explanation of my love of
Constance but maybe it will make you love it a little more too :-)
Temperance is nice too but the meaning isn't the best out of the virtue names IMO.
