"Hey, Mum!" she says, "This is so cool! I saw my name in the atlas at school today! It's a city in a country called Lebanon! Wow!".
"Oh, yeah, I knew it was something like that," says Mum.
"Why did you name me Tripoli, Mum? Is it an awesome city?"
"No," replies Mum. "I don't really know anything about it, but Israel was bombing Lebanon when I was pregnant with you, and Tripoli was one of the cities under attack, and I thought it sounded cool so I named you after it."

Personally I'd be pretty let down to know I'd been named after a war site that my mother had seen on the news! And I have no doubt at all that that's where your friend heard it.
