McCumber

Means "son of Cumber".

The Cumber part has less certain etymology, but these are the theories. It may derive from a place-name—possibly Cumber in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Alternatively, it could come from Gaelic comar, meaning "confluence" (where rivers meet), or a corruption of a Gaelic personal name. Another theory links it to the Old Gaelic Mac Cúmara or Mac Íomhair, though this is less direct.
