German and Jewish (Ashkenazic): topographic name for someone who lived on a corner or kept a corner shop (see Winkel), with the addition of Middle High German man, German Mann ‘man’. Known for Stephen Winkelmann, ex-CEO of Lamborghini, the birthname of the astronomer Maria Margarethe Kirch. One of the first famous astronomers of her time when she wrote of the conjunction of the sun with Saturn, Venus, and Jupiter in 1709 and 1712 respectively.
