Recently I've been sorting through family papers and I've gotten to know my great-grandmother
Hulda (as well as I can, she's been dead for nearly 30 years). Everything I find out about her makes me like her more - she came over to the US at 17, lived with a difficult sister, worked at a factory (which was a terrible job at the turn of the last century), taught herself English, took in a neighborhood boy, etc. I want to use her name as a middle name -
Katarina Hulda - but my husband isn't a fan. He is willing to use
Daniel (her maiden name was Danielson) but I don't find that honoring.
So my question is: Is
Hulda that terrible, even as a middle name? I love the idea of connecting my children with their ancestors and since many of my ancestors were not pleasant people it's wonderful to find one what was. Would you use it?
